Protect your building from the Sunshine Coast’s elements

While we all recognise the importance of a building looking its best, we don’t always consider what its physical imperfections could be telling us. Damage to a building located in Australia’s coastal region could indicate deeper issues at play that could end up costing building owners thousands.

RAS-VERTEX is a Sunshine Coast-based team that has been helping the local community improve the look and value of their properties for over ten years, with a focus on exterior painting, cleaning, maintenance and height safety. The team has seen many instances of coastal elements wreaking havoc on local homes and buildings.

Here are a few key things to be on the lookout for on your building’s roof and exterior.

1. rust

Rust is problematic in any form. Rusted roof sheeting, guttering or screws need to be dealt with before deterioration accelerates. Rust staining on a wall or balcony edge can be indicative of concrete cancer which, if left, can require expensive remediation work. Corrosion on window and door frames is also common in coastal areas - even aluminium corrodes in this environment. Regular cleaning can extend the life of window and door frames considerably.

 2. Water Damage

If you notice staining on your walls or ceiling, or a damp patch on your carpet, you may have a water ingress problem. This issue may be the result of a poorly maintained facade or roof. Keeping up with maintenance and painting ensures cracks and gaps are filled and coated, meaning less likelihood of water damage inside the property.

3. Cracks and gaps in the render or blockwork

Cracks and gaps can allow water into your building, which over time can cause costly damage to interior fixtures and fittings such as walls, ceilings and flooring.

 4. Mould

During wetter months, mould can easily form on your building. If left untouched, mould can stain paintwork, meaning re-painting is your only option. Maintenance cleaning removes mould and provides longevity to your paint job in the harsh sub-tropical environment of the Sunshine Coast.

 5. Prioritise prevention over care

The key to avoiding costly repairs on your property is calling in the professionals as a preventative measure, or acting quickly when you notice damage. The further a building deteriorates, the more cost will be associated with bringing it back from the brink. Timeliness is essential in avoiding extra expenses and irreversible damage to your property.

The good news is that the RAS-VERTEX team have recovered many buildings from advanced cases of weather and element damage, using a combination of ropes, EWPs and scaffolding. The team can get in and out in a much shorter time frame, meaning less cost for the client. Partnering with RAS-VERTEX means more convenience, less cost and a better quality result overall.
